Introduction
The H717 system is designed to transfer the majority of the weight of a DSLR or other camera away from your neck and to your lower back, torso and shoulders, thus removing the neck strain problem common with a conventional camera neck strap. This system will REPLACE your existing camera neck strap (unless you already have a Kinesis or Op/Tech neck strap).
For most photographers purchasing the H717, we also recommend the H675 PJ Camera Strap. Read on...
This harness can be used in four methods.
1. Combination Use If you want to carry a camera on the H717 and want able to switch back & forth from the H717 harness to a neck strap, then purchase a H717 X-Harness as well as a H675 PJ Camera Strap. (The H675 includes an H435 camera-side adapter.) This will replace your existing neck strap. Add a pair of H435 adapters for additional bodies.
2. Camera to Harness Only If you want to carry a camera attached directly to the X-Harness but not use a neck strap (or use your camera dettached from the harness for use on a tripod), then purchase the H717 X-Harness and a H435 Camera Adapter for each body. The H435 adapter will replace your existing neck strap.
3. Combo Use w/ Op/Tech or Tamrac If you are already using the Op/Tech or Tamrac neck strap system, simply purchase the H717a or H717b model and you're set to go. You can also purchase additional Op/Tech compatible camera body adapters from us (H438). We do not sell complete Op/Tech neck straps however.
4. Holster Case Only If you want to carry a holster case on the H717 harness, there are no additional adapters required. The H717 has snaphooks for attaching to pair of D-Rings found on holster cases and many other pouches. The lower part of the harness has a pair of straps for attaching to the lower part of a holster case, preventing the bottom of the case from swinging out and about.
Waist Belt: The H717 works independent of a waist belt. A belt will not help support it, but if you want more capacity you may add a waist belt like the B107, B108 etc. If you want additional support for a Kinesis wasitbelt (i.e. suspenders) then consider the H163 adpater which attaches to the H717.
Features
- Specifically designed for shooters that are hand holding heavy film or digital SLR cameras with big glass (PJs or wedding photogs)
- Harness front has a pair of internal HDPE staves, which effectively transfers some of the load to the torso, making this harness unbelievably comfortable with a large digital SLR and a 2.8 zoom lens
- Works with or without a waist belt
- Add H152 torso strap for extreme situations (i.e. rock climbing where you might be hanging up-side-down or at odd angles)
- Attached high on each side of the harness are two removable and independently adjustable 20mm-wide straps -- one set of quick-release buckles for attaching direclty to a camera body*. The other pair of straps has snap-hooks for attaching to a C-Series holster case or most any case with D-Rings.
- Removable camera compression strap is included (similar to the H152 strap)
- All compression and attachment straps (except sternum/chest strap) can be removed for a cleaner profile
- Converts to suspenders
-- Add a H163 to convert the harness to a 3-point suspender.
-- The optional H167 converts the harness to a 4-point suspender
-- Attach a tripod bag or small hydration pack while in this mode -- an extra set of pig tails is provided for this purpose).
- One size fits most (see specs in upper right corner of side bar)
- Not suitable for converting a long lens case into a backpack (choose H245 or H250 + H130 instead)
Fabrication
- The interior fabric is made from 75mm-wide lightly padded highly breathable 3mm three-dimensional spacer fabric (see photo in right-hand column). Exterior is smooth coated 200D nylon oxford cloth (the same fabric used to line most of our pouches).
- Over the shoulder area has an additional 6mm foam piece

Includes two straps (shown on the sides of the photo) for the front of the harness and the stretchy H160 for the back.
[H163] 3-Point Suspender Adapter for H717, $13.00
Convert your H717 into a 3-point suspender system. Attaches to any Kinesis padded belt made since about 2003. If you plan to carry a camera or holster case in front on your chest with the harness, then we recommend the 3-point suspender option, rather than the H167 4-point.

Includes two straps (shown on the sides of the photo) for the front of the harness and two adapters for the back.
[H167] 4-Point Suspender Adapter for H717 (pair), $13.00
Convert your H717 into a beefy 4-point suspender system (remove the end pieces of the harness and replace with these parts.). The H167 attaches to any Kinesis padded belt made since about 2003 (see note below).
THE H167 WILL RENDER THE H717 HARNESS NEARLY USELESS FOR CARRYING A HEAVY CAMERA ATTACHED TO THE HARNESS -- WE RECOMMEND THE H163 INSTEAD. (The camera in front will pull down the front of the harness, which will in turn make the "x" or back of the harness ride up against the back of your neck -- only use the H717 and H167 together if you wish to use as a suspender only solution and NOT as a camera-carrying solution).
Please note: Older Kinesis belts (<2003) will not accommodate the H167 adapter. Your belt MUST have the two rabbit ears shown above the thumbs in the photo above. We can modify old belts for this purpose.

This configuration compromises the carrying ability of the harness however.

March 2006 update: We added two additional sliders to prevent the H436 or H437 camera straps from creeping. They can be transferred to the H437 straps if needed.

If you still experience creep, then remove the extra slider and double back the webbing as shown and tighten. See our How To page for the steps.
