Designed to fit a "small body" (i.e. 5D, 20D, D70 etc. w/o vertical grip) with "small lens" (18-55, 24-105/4L, 28-105, 28-135, 24-120, 24-70/2.8 etc.) attached, as defined on this page. The size of the main compartment is the same on both of these cases.
The C382 is often used as a stand-alone product with a chest harness or tossed inside a large overnight backpack. Because of this we added two draw-corded pockets on each side (which is why this case is more expensive than the larger C500). These two pockets are ideal for stashing a short lenses (careful, it is not padded), batteries, film, (placing raw film on one side and exposed film on the other -- ten 35mm rolls per pocket capacity). They are made from lightweight nylon oxford cloth and will smoosh down flat when not in use.
Also look at the smaller M330 for use as a holster camera case.
By comparison, the larger C500, C580 and C640 cases are designed to hold a full-sized "pro" body. Some of these bodies are made larger with optional vertical grips. The C380 and C382 are for more compact bodies. These two cases are the same height as the C500 but feature a slimmer profile or depth.
